Sandgate Chapel Apartments
Self-catering apartments inside a Victorian chapel.
A late-Victorian chapel reimagined as six self-catering apartments. Original rose windows, a soaring nave kitchen in the duplex, and underfloor heating where the pews used to be. Penrith station is a ten-minute walk — Ullswater, twenty minutes by car.
The story
Built in 1815 as a Wesleyan chapel on Fell Lane, Sandgate served its congregation for nearly 180 years before the doors closed and the building waited, quietly, for the right second life.
Six self-catering apartments now sit inside the original sandstone shell. The rose window survived; so did the upper gallery, now the mezzanine of the duplex. Underfloor heating runs where the pews used to.
Penrith station is a ten-minute walk — direct to London in under three hours, Glasgow in just over one. Ullswater, Haweswater and the Eden Valley are all twenty minutes by car.
