About Us
The Derwent Group began with a place, a chance meeting, and a shared belief that spaces should make people feel something.
We met not far from the River Derwent, here in West Cumbria — the landscape that still shapes everything we do today. Amy grew up in Cockermouth, and after building a life together here, we decided to create something of our own: places where people could slow down, connect, and feel genuinely welcome.
That journey started during lockdown with the restoration of The Tithe Barn Hotel in the heart of Cockermouth. What began as one project quickly became something bigger — not just hospitality, but a collection of thoughtful spaces built around good design, comfort, atmosphere, and community.
Since then, The Derwent Collective has grown with the same philosophy at its core: creating places we would want to spend time in ourselves. Whether it's somewhere to eat, stay, drink, gather, or celebrate, we believe the best spaces feel personal, relaxed, and full of character.
We're still proudly family-run, now living locally with our daughter Nina, and every project we take on is rooted in the area we call home. Cumbria has given us so much — its landscape, its communities, its independent spirit — and we hope our spaces reflect that in their own way.
For us, hospitality has never just been about rooms or menus. It's about how a place makes you feel when you walk through the door.
And we're only just getting started.
